Malt Shovel Inn, The Square (West End), GL17 9TJ

12th century pub which was used as a meeting house as far back as 1110. Still trading, the Malt Shovel has been rebuilt and extended over the years. The pub has windows and frames that were originally from 10, Downing Street. Edward Thompson, owner in 1903, is also recorded as a brewer at the Hillside Brewery, Ruardean. Whether or not the brewery was at the Malt Shovel Inn or elsewhere in Ruardean (Angel perhaps) is not yet known.
