Marriage records (General)

Would SKS please tell me what the legal age of marriage was in 1800's. I've been going through the Christchurch Marriage Records with great interest! Ages are listed as "full".

(Here in the States each state sets it's own legal age....anywhere from 15 to 18.....so please pardon my ignorance!)

The use of the term 'full' for the age on a marriage certificate usually indicates that the person was over 21. This is not very helpful when you are hoping to be able to ascertain the year of birth.
