im researching my mothers family,her married name was taylor,maiden name kemp,here mother was a lister,her mother a holder.named julia emma holder born6/9/1885,her mother was sarah ann holdernee gwinnell married a joseph holder in 28/7/1851 then its edward holder married a margeret1751?all lived in gloucester cinders.my g,g,grandmother had brothers and sisters+joseph williamborn 1852,fredrick james born 5/12/1854,george allen born 5/12/1857,albert9/111855,mirriam 24/9/1859,elizabeth 11/11/1861,adeline 14/10/1862,sarah ann 23/111871,nimrod william 16/111871,harry 5/2/ 1890?,my gggrandmother was born julia emma 2/10/1864.they came to leeds hunslet in the 1800 as there on the hunslet census list.they came from taynton gloucester were they had a big house called (jack,s house.)a pop star now from the verb lives in my ancestral home.can anyone help further.regards brenda.

There is an article on the Holder family of Taynton in "Gloucestershire Studies" 1957 Ed by HPR Finberg pp 174-183.

This is based in part on the John Holder notebook 1691-1730 - Gloucestershire Archives has a photocopy (D1371 see the online catalogues for details). This is a fascinating read as it gives highlights of each year as he developed his estate. It is annotated with the descent of the estate through the family to 1808. Unfortunately no mention of the Phelps family of Taynton.

Holders also feature quite a lot in the Taynton pages of VCH which are also online.
