Cot meadows, Lydbrook (General)
I'm trying to find my way back to cotmeadows where my Grandmother was born in 1916. The cottage is no longer standing, but my Grandmother was able to take me to see the location and what was left of the cottage and garden some 20 years ago.
It is somewhere on the hillside high above the Baptist Church and graveyard.
I think we walked diagonally left through several fields and stiles from the steps above the church.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this that may help me to find it again, or any memories / local history about cotmeadows?

What was your Grandmother's parents names? and where there siblings born before the 1911 census - as looking at Lydbrook 1911 - can't see an address: Cot meadows.

The cottage where your grandmother was born was called White Hall or at least thats what we always knew it as. The Cot meadows extend from Bell Hill down to Probert's Barn lane and from the main lydbrook road B4234 up to Hare's Grove. I have extensive knowledge of Bell Hill and its inhabitants but know little of White Hall. If you sign in to Google Earth you can see clearly where the cottage was at the following co-ordinates.

Do you know up to which year your grandmother lived at Whitehall and her parents names? this would go a long way to filling in a big void in local history.Are there any known photo's of Whitehall?

Thankyou Slowhands, Lancaster & M P Griffiths for your kind replies. I've checked my knowledge against that of the family. My Grandmother's parents were Issac Herbert Jones (preacher at the Baptist Church) and Annie Elizabeth Jones (who was employed as Housekeeper to Issac when his 1st wife died, and later became his wife. I think Lily was a daughter to Issac's first marriage, and then Harold,Reg,Sid,Alf,Dorothy(my grandmother Born 26 sept 1916)and Hilda were all children to Issac & Annie Elizabeth, although I'm not sure I've got the boys in the right order! Issac and Annie Eliz. both died within 6months of each other approx 1922(Issac from asthma,Annie Eliz.from TB.I know they were still living in the house on Cotmeadows when my Grandmother was 4yrs old(so approx 1920),that another family lived in the other side of the cottage, and that a wash-house divided the two. My mother says she has heard my grandmother refer to the house as 'Whitehall',although she commonly just referred to the homestead as Cotmeadows. Thanks for listening! Caron
