TIDMAN (General)

Any information regarding Tidman line from WUE. They moved to Bristol ultimately and are recorded as working in the cotton factory there? Wondered if anyone has researched the family tree in addition to myself.
Thank you

Hi Frances, weloome to this friendly forum and website.
Have you tried searching for Tidmans in the site's Parish Records ?, from the dropdown menu from the "Resources" heading at top of this page. I see there are only ten !, making it a very rare name locally indeed. I see nine are in Wotton Under Edge, I had been puzzled by your WUE. I'd expect it to be unlikely that many of the forum users have researched your family, as W-u-E is literally on the outer edges of our normal scope, which is usually west of the Severn. Searching "Tidman" within this forum, which has been operating many years so has already covered most queries imaginable, I'm afraid they've only been mentioned just once, in this prior thread, hopefully it's of some help.

Please, seeing as you've already done some research, please can you try to ask more specific questions and we'll do our best to help you ?. We are all amateurs with limited spare time & resources, and don't want to be telling you what you already know, especially on a "new" subject for us, so please help us to help you.

Thanks.

Hello Frances

You might get lucky, but this site is specific to the Forest of Dean area and nearby parishes. Wotton is on the opposite side of the River Severn.

Have you looked at www.familysearch.org ?

There are LOTS of records for Tidmans shown, and some are very early!

When you get onto the Search page just enter TIDMAN, Wotton-under-Edge, England, Gloucestershire in the appropriate boxes (and enjoy!)

Regards
Chris

Evening Chris, and SNAP !

Just like buses, Frances waits all day then two arrive at once ... ;-)

Re your comment abt the Forest boundaries I must admit I was a little surprised to see the PR database includes some from W-u-E, but personally and as you know from this forum I'm never averse to leaving the Forest so long as there are some Dean links.

Frances, for your information and despite recent rumblings from the area's governors in Gloster, this is the area we generally consider to be the Forest of Dean.

There is a previous thread re: HART/TIDMAN - 2012

Hart - Wotton Under Edge? (Hawkesbury 4 miles) - listed under this is a entry from CarolynO - who still has an envelope next to her name - so one can send a private message. She states, James HART was apprentice in the clothing business and was a clothier and cloth mfg. His children were christened in the Methodist Church at Kingswood

Heading for link: Hart - Wotton Under Edge? (Hawkesbury 4 miles)
