Lewis Flower Trigg (1881-1937) (General)

by Tony Trigg @, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, Thursday, June 21, 2018, 10:10 (2137 days ago)

I'm searching this branch of my tree and was wondering if anyone else had sorted out this conundrum ?

Lewis married Edith Jane Jones of Ross in 1904. According to the 1911 census and death index she was born 1881/82, but on the 1939 census it says 1889.

Also, looking for children born to Trigg/Jones in the area at that time there were 13.This must cover 2 families as Edith & Doris could to have been born 3 months apart.
Francis, Phillis, Enid, Nora & Freda are definitely theirs.

Can anyone confirm which are their children please ?

1906 Francis Edward Trigg
1908 Phyllis Olive Irene Trigg
1910 Enid Catherine Trigg
1913 Edith May Trigg
1913 Doris Ivy Trigg
1915 Eric Wilfred Trigg
1916 Hilda Florence Trigg
1917 Nora Rose Constance Trigg
1918 Frank Trigg
1919 Margaret Edith M Trigg
1920 Ada Evelyn Trigg
1921 Eileen Trigg
1923 Freda Joan Trigg

GRO Index

JONES, Edith Jane

1882 M Quarter NEWENT, Volume 06A Page 282

Mother's Maiden Surname: left blank

If this is your family, it would seems, Edith's mother was probably unmarried

Will check the GRO Index for children of Lewis and Edith

?

This is a 'long shot'

Forest of Dean records has a baptism at Linton, 6 April 1885

of Edith Jane JONES, mother: Charlotte - residence: Linton Hill

Memoranda: No father registered, Domestic Servant

1891 Census, Linton

Charles JONES - 73 - born Glos Brimscombe
Ann JONES - 59 - born Hereford, How Caple
Edith J JONES - 9 Grand-daughter

In this case, it would seem that Edith was christened in 1885 and appears as aged 9 on the 1891 census

On the 1871 census, for Herefordshire, Woolhope, Charles & Ann also have a daughter named Charlotte JONES aged 9 born How Capel

? There is a possible marriage in Ross 1887, of a Charlotte JONES to a Francis BAILEY - but can't find them on the census

Despite the anomalies I think this has a good chance of being Francis BAILEY and his family,

Many thanks for all your efforts. The Edith Jane Jones 1882 form Newent seems the most likely fit. It's strange that the 1939 census gives her dob as 1889 - maybe the collator just misheard, or maybe she just didn't tell him the truth (vanity ?).

With regard to identifying which of the children were theirs you mention the GRO Indexes. I already have the index records so know the name, year, quarter, district, vol, page and mothers name - I wasn't aware you could get any more info from the GRO without purchasing the certificates themselves.

regards,

Tony.

There was another TRIGG/JONES marriage as follows:

Marriages Sep 1908
JONES Sarah Jane Westbury S. 6a 608
TRIGG George Henry Westbury S. 6a 608

They were living in Nailbridge, Drybrook at time of the 1911 Census:
Name Relation to Head Birth Date Age Gender Marital Status Years Married Occupation Birth Place Address

John Trigg Son 1876 35 Male Single Coal Miner and Hewer East Dean, Gloucestershire George Trigg, Harry Hill, East Dean, Nailbridge, Drybrook, Gloucestershire
George Henry Trigg Son 1871 40 Male Married Coal Miner and Hewer East Dean, Gloucestershire George Trigg, Harry Hill, East Dean, Nailbridge, Drybrook, Gloucestershire

At that time there were 2 children but I have only been able to find a birth registration for Sidney:
TRIGG, SYDNEY GEORGE JONES

He was buried at Drybrook on 25 August 1935 aged 25
______

Noting the place of residence of the two families may help in deciding who the parents were.

Lewis Flower and his wife Edith were living in Mitcheldean/Abenhall area, Lewis was buried at Abenhall.
We have transcripts of Abenhall marriages for a date later than we are able to publish at the moment but are able to say that Margaret Edith Mabel married Harold Edward George Meek at Abenhall on 21 December 1967. This records tells us that Margaret's father was Lewis.
George Henry and his wife Sarah were living in Drybrook area and I would suggest that Edith May, Hilda Florence, Frank and Ada Evelyn were their children as they all died very young and are buried at Drybrook.

It is always dangerous to make assumptions and the only way to be absolutely certain of a family connection is to hopefully find transcripts of baptisms or marriages or obtain certificates. GRO is offering a PDF option for births up to 1917 and deaths up to 1957 at a cost of £6 each. The pdf option does not appear to be available for marriages.

Hi Doris Trigg was my nan. Edith Jane Jones was her mum and was a foundling from Hereford. So I'm guessing Jones was not her true family name. I have just started building a family tree.
