Alfred/albert Lewis Whitecroft (General)

by Nicky @, West Yorkshire, Friday, April 17, 2020, 17:14 (1463 days ago)

I have hit a big brick wall regarding my 2 x great uncle.
Born Alfred he then became Albert!!

Born 1894 in Whitecroft to Luke Lewis and Annis Dufty. Luke died and Annis
Remarried To Thomas Hill.

In 1901 he was age 7 named Alfred
In 1911 he was 16 named Albert.

In 1920 his half sister Gladys hill married to Henry George Phillips and he was
Down as a witness...name Albert.

Possible death in 1974 in Whitecroft but not certain.

Any help would be fantastic

It would appear that Albert's father was not Luke. This is Albert's birth registration:
Child Surname Child Forename Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
LEWIS Albert DUFTY 1893 Forest of Dean Monmouth, Coleford 50 188

And this is Luke's Burial 2 years earlier:

Mother's maiden name is included in records on FreeBMD from September 1911. For prior to this date you can obtain this information from GRO Index https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp (you have to register). You can also order certificates online.
For Gloucestershire records go to http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/bmd/MainMenu.aspx

Where did you go on the 1939 register please? On the one I access it
shows Elizabeth as the 2nd person in household and her 3 children are
locked.

Find My Past

You have accessed it from Ancestry and comparing with FMP two of the three that are blocked are daughters Virtue and Lily.

There is also a son Ralph born 1927, is it likely that Albert is blocked as elizabeth
is def no. 2 on the list

The 1939 Register was first published on Find My Past in 2015 and persons less than 100 years old at that time were blocked other than where it was known that the person had died.

Ralph is almost certainly blocked. He was born after 1919 and may have been alive at time the 1939 register was published. I have not been able to locate his death.

Virtue was born 7 November 1918 and married Ronald Nelmes in 1943. Both were still alive in 2010 and at an address in Lydney. I assume that both are now deceased.

Lily was born 28 March 1920 and married Robert James Greenway in 1942. She subsequently married Vernon George John Smythe in 1947. Lily was still alive in 2010 at an address in Lydney. Vernon died 25 May 1967(Source - Probate Register)
