Hi
I'm after any information on Ind Coope and Co Ltd Brewers. I'm not sure what part of the area they are situated in and it may be that they are in Gloucester.
This is the brewery that Samuel Millard worked for.
thanks

History
The origins of Ind Coope go back to 1709 when brewing started behind The Star Inn in Romford. In 1799 this pub was taken over by Edward Ind and a larger brewery built. C.E.Coope joined the firm in 1845 and in 1856 a much large brewery was opened in Burton-upon-Trent. The firm was renamed Ind Coope in 1886. In 1934 it merged with Samuel Allsopp. It merged once more with Ansells and Tetley Walker in 1961 to form Allied. The beer is now produced by Carlsberg-Tetley at their Leeds plant.
It took over a Gloucester Pub group / Northgate brewery in teh 1890's, example
Horse and Groom, London Road
12 London Road. Gloucester
The Horse and Groom was a tiny pub immediately to the south of the railway bridge in London Road. In fact the pub was literally in the shadow of the embankment leading to the bridge. It must have been demolished in the late 1970's. I can remember drinking there in 1978 when it was serving Ind Coope light mild on hand-pump brewed at the Romford brewery. The Horse and Groom had a long association with Ind Coope. It was Ind Coope who had acquired the Hatton's Northgate Brewery in George Street, Gloucester - a stone's throw away from the Horse and Groom. Arthur Hatton is listed as landlord at the pub in 1885.
The Gloucester Records office has a number of Papers to do with the Northgate Brewery

Thanks Slowhands, you really are a one stop shop...
If anyone has a beer bottle label from this company, I'd appreciate seeing it. Likewise if anyone has the company employment records I'd love to look up Samuel Millard in them as well.
cheers
