Sarah COOPEY and Thomas MANSELL (General)

Hi again

Through speaking to some very clever people, I have another possibility to consider... (and I like this one much more lol)

In 1899, a little girl named Mary was born to parents Sarah COOPEY and Thomas MANSELL. The birth was registered in the ROSS registration district.

This couple married later that year so Sarah COOPEY, and Mary COOPEY became Sarah and Mary MANSELL.

Just a year and a half later, in the census of 1901, the family were living at Morse Lane, Ruardean:

Thomas MANSELL Head
Sarah MANSELL Wife
Mary MANSELL Dau - aged 1
Francis MANSELL Dau - just born

Morse Lane Ruardean is right next to Morse Road (where my grandad was born).

So, I think Mary lived as Mary MANSELL but for the purposes of her marriage, she had to be married as her birth name Mary COOPEY. It is wholly possible that at the time of registering her first son's birth in 1917, my grandad, when she was asked for her maiden name she gave it as MANSELL and then when the time came to register their second son's birth in 1920, Uncle Stan, she answered that her maiden name was COOPEY.

I am so hoping this is true, but I will need to do some more searching for records that back it up.

How very exciting!
Rachel
