JAMES WATKINS (1779-1839) - Ancestor Search (General)
James Watkins, from the Hereford Militia, enlisted at the age of 18 in the
2nd Battalion 39th Regiment of Foot on 25 August 1807,in the Town of Hereford,
reference: hand-written copy of his discharge document. He was discharged from
the 1st Battalion 39th Foot at Fort Chambly,Quebec,Canada in January 1815.
Shown born in the Parish of Linton? in or near the Town of Hereford,County of
Hereford. Linton isn't clear on the document;it could be Hinton or Hulton, however,I understand only the Parish of Linton existed pre-1834.
James remained in Canada after his discharge in 1815,settling in St-Germain-de-
Grantham near Drummondville,Quebec and remained active in the 7th Township Militia. He died in 1839 and is buried in St.George's Anglican Cemetry in Drummondville. I have a muster listing of his movements 1807-1815 and a fairly
complete tree of JAMES' Family in Canada, which I'm interested in sharing.
My quest is to identify James' ancestors and siblings. Not knowing his parents names, especially his mother maiden name,it is very difficult. In addition,as many as 7 James Watkins' were born in 1779 in Hereford. Hopefully someone has
family info with a link to my James Watkins. I'm,Leonard James Watkins, born in
Drummondville,Quebec,a direct 7th generation descendant from JAMES.
I would appreciate any information or suggestions to continue this search.
