James THOMAS born about 1815 Lydbrook (General)
I've just started searching my Forest of Dean ancestry, beginning with my g-g-grandfather Tom Thomas and working back. Tom married Alice Taylor in Berkeley Union Chapel in 1879, and gives his father's details as James Thomas, tin roller from Lydbrook. On census returns Tom's birthplace is given as Redbrook.
I think he must be Tom son of James and Mary Thomas living at Parkend, West Dean. James' date of birth is c1815, judging by his age, and when he remarries, to Caroline Hope in 1862, he gives his father's name as John Thomas, also a tin roller.
This family line has been a major brick wall until recently, when I was able to pin down Tom and Alice's marriage certificate and thus get the father's name. So my next step is to trace James' family. Would be glad of any help, and contact from any family connections would also be welcome.
