Hello. I am trying to trace my family history in the Forest of Dean and have a family name of Meek to follow. I have seen that SLOWHANDS seems to know a lot about this family name in Lydbrook. Could you please get in touch if you see this message.

Slowhands was a major contributor to this site and therefore does not mean he has any MEEK connection. He no longer subscribes to the site.

MEEK family, Lydbrook area
by Jefff , West London, Middlesex, Thursday, July 19, 2018, 15:40 (2398 days ago) @ nat2one
Hi and welcome to the forum and associated website.
I may be wrong but I got the impression from his posts that Slowhands perhaps came from Ruardean ? He was very knowledgable and the whole area but seemed especially so with the Lydbrook and Ruardean side of the Forest. It's a great shame he's not still active on the forum, I hope he's well.
I see from this site's PRs database that it includes almost 3000 MEEK PRs from all parts of the Forest. My father was a Jones from Lydbrook, one of his sisters married into the Meek family so I have traced that specific line in the Lydbrook and Ruardean area, although not yet in any great detail. I suggest that you please post more specific questions, but please before that spend some time searching the forum and the website, you may well find some of your queries have already been answered.
Thanks J.

As I posted in response to another enquiry:
"The Meek surname is very well represented with over 1400 items in the Forum and almost 2100 in the Parish Records of which almost 1000 refer specifically to Drybrook (which is only since 1817 when the Anglican Church opened).
If you give us some specific names and dates we may have more info available on those individuals or their ancestors, e.g. James Meek (1847-1918) of Ruardean Hill and Drybrook was my great-grandfather.
If you want to communicate with those of us who also have an interest in this family name, then take Admin's advice and update your profile to include your email address then you (and we) will then be able to communicate directly.
This facility is only available to registered users and your email address will not be displayed in your user profile."
My own links are primarily to Drybrook/Ruardean Meeks but Hazel Iris Meek seems to have been a 6th cousin once removed of mine!
Regards
-Colin
