Families named BANHAM, Lydney area, 1905-1915 (General)

by fernman2, Tuesday, May 04, 2010, 19:18 (5394 days ago)

Have recently discovered that my actual grandfather had the name BANHAM and was not the person I knew as my grandfather. My mother was born with the name Banham in 1909 although I always knew her as being a 'Thorn'. I understand that this man died sometime before 1912 when my grandmother married Albert W. Thorn whom I knew as my grandfather, and who later kept the shoe makers/repairers in Newerne Street (Lydney) until the 1960s. I should be grateful for any information on the name of Banham. Unfortunately I have no Christian name or even initial for this person and I have no idea whether he even came from the Forest area at all. Any comments gratefully received.

May I send an enormous collective 'thank you' to everyone for all the very helpful information which you have provided. It will take me a while to try to sort it all out and to evaluate what I have got. The references to Sydenham are of interest as I know my grandmother's family (McNeils) lived there for some time. Someone has asked me for my mother's first names. These were Irene Violet. I shall e-mail a couple of you directly to follow up some points, but please accept this collective message. I thank you all very much for your help. Of course, any further comments will be much appreciated.
