What is Extraparochial (General)

{thanks Chris W}

An extra-parochial area was an area considered to be outside any parish. Extra-parochial areas were gradually either integrated with a neighbouring or surrounding parish, or made independent parishes in the 19th century.

In the FoD this can be an indication of land "settled" or encroached in the central Forest area of East and West Dean.

See map "Early Map of the Parishes in the Forest of Dean"
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/joomla/the-forest-of-dean/maps-of-the-forest marked as "ex. par."
