Old Engine pit and The Bourts Lydbrook (General)

by maggie, Sunday, May 23, 2010, 00:39 (5376 days ago)

I am trying to work out where the area of 'Old Engine' was in Lydbrook -I think it was an area around the pit of the that name?? I have bought some old OS maps to try to find it but to no avail. Also can the Bourts which appears on censuses be defined as a set area on an old map? I have looked at the ennumerators notes but they covered such a wide area.
Thanks for your help.

Its name comes from an old "wood" in the English Bicknor area - today its is in the Worrall Hill area of Upper Lydbrook. You might find "Bourts Inclosure" on your map (?)
