Dear Ray, my 2xgreat grandfather was killed in an accident at Wigpool Colliery in 1865. There is a report of the accident in the Coleford Times. Perhaps your wife's grt grand father's death was recorded in a local paper???

I have used this website in the past and it gives an excellent record of mining accidents and those killed. If it was a disaster in which several people were killed there might be a memorial to it somewhere and some local history books might also be a good source of information. Though they aren't all accurate, I have some relatives killed in an explosion and only the ones who were adults were listed the children killed were listed elsewhere.

No, his DEATH cert not the burial record, i will be surprised if the cause of death is not listed on that, it should also give you his place of death, age and witness`s name too.
