Does anyone know anything about Dorothy Emma HALE, believed born about 1899, daughter of George HALE who died pre-1920? She married Harry SMITH in December 1920 at Westbury-on-Severn Registry Office. They had one son born 1921 and named Harry.

Thanks for the info. I do have this info but am not absolutely sure that this is the same person as that on the marriage certificate.

The latter shows her residence as Factory Row, Cinderford but I cannot find her on any census. I am awaiting her birth certificate to verify her parent's names. If she was born and married in Westbury-on-Severn, where was she for the intervening 20 years?

SMITH, Dorothy 1898 - 1996

I have eventually found Dorothy Emma HALE. She was born in 1899, a base child to Martha Morgan and registered as Dorothy Emma MORGAN. Her mother then married George HALE (which one I don't know yet, probably the carpenter you found) in 1901.

In the 1911 census Martha HALE is a widow living with her parents and Dorothy MORGAN aged 12. There are two other grandchildren at the address one of whom is the son of Martha and George, the other, born 1907. The Forest of Dean site shows this child as being base-born and Martha as a single woman.

Is there any information about George who probably died between 1901 and 1911?

Hi Clive,

I have a Harry Smith who married Dorothy Hale in the Forest of Dean 1920 Westbury on Severn. Could we be related? My Husband's great great grandfather was William Smith, Harry's uncle. William came to Australia in the late 1890 and we are trying to find some UK relations. We will be visiting next year and staying in Blakeney for 3 weeks to trace the family.
