Walden Court, Pauntley was known as Compton (plus variatons) and was in the parish of Newent. The farm was owned by John Leather Stelfox (1913-1925) from Cheshire.
One farm worker during this time was Henry Burlow. Eric Warde's book, They didn't walk far, may help. Also I have a copy of A Farmer's Tale by David Hinds if you have any specific questions.

Hello barns,Thanks for getting back to me about Walden court,my family worked there,Henry Burlow was my Great grandfather, and my grandmother was Mary Ellen Burlow,I believe she worked as a domestic at pauntley or another large house i.e Walden Court. My Uncle Pat Burlow also worked for David Hinds.I am searching for info on the employees as one my be my Grandfather.Mary Ellen had a baby in 1920 which was my father Albert Frank Burlow, as there is no Father's name on the Birth certificate I 'm wondering maybe one of the employees .could be my Grandfather.I have Eric Warde's book, but would like a copy of A Farmer's Story as I believe it mention's the Burlow's. Look forward to your reply.Jeannine Seddon.

Hi JS There's a copy of David Hind's book in Newent Library. It is 76 pages long. I could take a pc of a pc but there's very little in the book about the Burlows. Even if you managed to find a list of everyone employed at WC it would not be of much use to you. Your grandfather might have been a Newent man or a Redmarley man. Who knows. Have you contacted other members of the Burlow/Winter family to see if there's a family legend? Tracing the Burlows is a challenge in itself.
Two of your direct Burlows are recorded in the Pauntley MIs on this site.

Hello Barnes,
Thank you for replyng back to my query on Walden Court and David Hind's book.
I live in Yeovil so Newent Library is a little too far to borrow the book, and thanks for offering to photo copy it for me,but that's asking too much of your time so don't bother. As to the MIs,I have checked them out thank you.
As for finding my Grandfather I think he will always remain a mystery!!!!
I have been putting together my Family tree for nearly a year now and sadly most of my Burlow family have either passed away or those who are known to me do not know my grandfather's history.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards,
Jeannine

Hi Barns,
Thanks for getting back to me re: Walden Court.I do not have a copy of George Burlow's will.I do know of it where he left property on trust to his wife Mary Ann and jointly to his son George and daughter Annie Elizabeth. So a copy would be great.
I have also gone to my local library and asked them to try and get the copy of David Hind's book, they will let me know in the next couple of days.
Do you have any records for Reginald J Winter (step grandfather) who married Mary Ellen Burlow ( grandmother)in 1923?They had a child George ,but I'm not sure where he was born.
Thanks,
Jeannine.

Hi jeannine To obtain George Burlow's will send a cheque for £5.00 to hmcs, Gloucester Probate Sub-Registry, 2nd Floor, Combined Court Building, Kimbrose Way, Gloucester. GL1 2DG, your name & address, the name, number & date of the will. I always enclose a printout from the index. Thanks to this wonderful index I've found my great grandfather. I obtained his will and then his death certficate.
His son in law had knocked 13 years off his age and this had been deducted in the burial register.

Thanks for all the work you have done on the Winter Family.I had no idea there were so many of them.My family tree is getting more extended ,and it's amazing how my family of the Burlow's and the Winter's all seem to have lived so close to one another.I certainly have Gloucester blood in me even though I was born in Jersey Channel Island.

Thanks for the info on my Step Grandfather and Half Uncle George.I got to know him and his wife Dorothy very well. They were lovely people. So sad they have both passed away in the last few years. My Dad never wanted anything to do with them as he felt he had been abandoned as a baby to live with his grandparents, after his mother married Reginald Winter.
Having spent half of my life looking for my Father and finding him,he was never upfront with me about the past ,so after he died a couple of years ago I set out on my jouney into my past.
All the Burlow's from doing my research seemed to be Farmers and labourers and I'm very grateful for all your help.I would never have got this far without your help.
