Strange Locations (General)
Good Evening All
This evening I had a very interesting conversation with my cousin, he use to live at 24 The Square Parkend.
During the conversation he referred to two places, the first The Wet Wood and the second Sodum.
He went on to say that my father was born at Sodum, therefore I guess it is close to Sling or Clearwell.
Can anyone give me any clues as to the location of Sodum?
Kind Regards
Tony Jenkins

Hi Tony - Are you sure that the name Sodum came from the Forest of Dean? My husband's 2x Gt Grandfather (Edward Howells) was born in English Bicknor. On 1861 Census he was living in a place called Gomorrah, which was an area nicknamed after the Bible's Sodom & Gomorrah. We have since found out that the area he lived was actually Pontlottyn, S. Wales. (near Rhymney). Hope this information might help you.

Wet Wood is on the road from Speech House towards New Fancy, just past Boysgrave Oak.

Strange Locations
Hi Tony, PEG here from Sydney, Australia.
I grew up in Parkend, we lived in the last but 1 house (Newhaven - known as "the doctor's house" by some people) at the top of Fancy Rd going towards The Barracks from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s.
The forest on the opposite side of the road running out to Boy's Grave was always known to me as "The Wet Wood"
Interestingly, my GGGrandparents Thomas & Harriet Gwynne lived in The Square from around 1871, but I have not been able to find out which number in The Square they lived.
Can anyone out there help me here?

Peg,
I looked at the census records; the house number is not listed . . .I would be happy to share the info from the census if you don't already have it.
