I am looking for details of the forebears of Jemima and Maria. I
have their father's names. Can you help?

Interesting thread....I have a branch of Preeces in Ruardean Hill 1820~1900.

------
?
1871 East Dean, Ruardean Hill
James PREECE - 49, Collier - all born East Dean
Mary - 40
Eliza Ann - 10
Miariam - 2

This one is the son of Richard Preece. He married Mary Crocket in 1846 and died in 1877.

1881 Census, Westbury on Severn
64 Harry Hill
James PREECE - 48, Wd, General Labourer, born East Dean
Miriam YORK - age 21, unmarried - Housekeeper, born West Dean

This one is the son of Robert Preece and Susannah Bailey. Recently widowed from Jemima. I never managed to identify any offspring for James/Jemima or his previous wife Mary? Presumably there are some if you are investigating him in detail?

I wondered if Robert and Richard are related as both are of similar age and moved to East Dean from Upton Bishop. Have you got any evidence for parentage of Robert? I'm directly descended from Richard.

Cheers
Maxine

James Preece b 1820, James Preece b 1833

by Peter Preece @, Thursday, February 24, 2011, 14:42 (5090 days ago) @ Maxine Z

I have James Preece 1833-1894 as the brother of Edward Preece 1839-1904
who is my Great Grandfather. Their father was Robert Preece 1782-1870
who came from Upton Bishop, Herefordshire. Robert married Susannah Bailey
(died 1878) in 1831 at Ruardean. Their third child was Ruth 1844-1922 who married
Job Taylor 1840-1907.

There were quite a few Preeces in the Upton Bishop area but so far I have been unable to link them.

Thank you all for you posts.

Maxine. Iam sorry that I did not answer your query in my first reply.

So far, I can find no children from the wives of James Preece. It is
noticeable that both Mary Ann and Jemima died young, perhaps in childbirth?

If you have any information re this I would love to hear from you again.

Peter Preece.

James Preece b 1820, James Preece b 1833

by Peter Preece @, Tuesday, March 08, 2011, 12:44 (5078 days ago) @ Peter Preece

James Preece 1833-1894 was the brother of my great grandfather Edward Preece
1837-1904. James, of Drybrook, had three marriages. The third one was to
Myra Evans York b1861 in Christchurch in 1884. Since this date I can find no trace
of either James or Myra - no census entries, no dates of burial - nothing.
Can anyone help please?

James & Myra PREECE

In the Canadian passenger lists there are a James PREECE ( severeal) and a Myra PREECE ( single entry)

I have relations who sailed via Montreal and end up "all over" the States...

There is Myra PREECE in OHIO but I think the age is "too far out" to be considered.

Myra Evans Hunt - Widow of James Preece

by Peter Preece @, Tuesday, March 08, 2011, 14:12 (5078 days ago) @ m p griffiths

Sorry, but I must have had a senior moment. My posting was incomplete.

James Preece died in 1894 in Drybrook and his widow Myra Evans Preece
married Thomas Hunt in 1895 at Christchurech.

It is after 1895 that I am unable to find Thomas Hunt (NOT James Preece)
or his wife Myra Evans Hunt.

Once again sorry for the confusion.
