Gladys
I have George Abell 1814 in my Family Tree. He is not related to me but is "connected" via a convoluted route. His daughter Elizabeth Abell 1849 married Enoch Meredith 1847, son Enoch Meredith 1824 & Eliza Jenkins. Enoch Meredith 1824 was the son of John Meredith 1805 & Maria Davis 1903. Enoch Meredith 1824 had a sister Theophillia Meredith 1826 who married James Parsons 1823, they had 8 children including Mary Parsons 1847 who married my 2nd cousin twice removed Timothy Yemm born 27 May 1847 he was the son of Amos Baldwin Yemm 1819 & Rebecca Marfell 1816. These latter persons are my main intererest, but sometimes I get carried away researching siblings and parents of spouses.
You will note from the 1851 Census for George Abell that there was a stepson surname Driver and a servant surname Dickenson :
1851 Census Painswick
George Abell 37 Cirencester Innkeeper
Elizabeth Abell 37 Sutgrove
Elizabeth Abell 1 Painswick
William Abell 4 MO Painswick
John W Driver 15 Stepson Painswick
Elizabeth Dickenson 11 Servant Sutgrove
Enoch Meredith Meredith & Elizabeth Abell are to be found within the following thead.

Dear Jim,
All the Merediths and Nicholls you wrote about are all my husbands gradfathers, great grandfathers etc. He also has Yemms Jordans Marfell Trigg Jenkins I could go on. Like you I try to stick to the males line first but some how go off at a tangent if something good crops up.
I have found Elizabeth with her son John William Driver Dickenson age 5 in the 1841 Census of Stroud HO 107.349/8 Ancestry.com.uk They are living with a John Driver age 50!! Elizabeth is in her 20s. Do I sense an affair here?
George Abell and Elizabeth are my husbands 2xgreat grandparents.
Thanks for all the info, I'm sure my Husband is related to you someway down the line.
Cheers, Janet in Tasmania

Hi, Have just found your note...Amos Baldwin Yemm and Rebecca Marfell were my paternal Great Great Great Grandparents. Timothy Yemm was the brother of Amos Balwin Yemm , he married Mary Parsons and emigrated to Illinois with his two daughters Miriam and Susanna. Also travelling with them were Frederick Yemm and Albert Marfell who were cousins. I am tracing the family branch at the moment in Illinois so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kate

Hi Kate
I will be happy to help you. Firstly however - in my version of events - the Timothy Yemm born 27 May 1847 who married Mary Parsons also born 1847 baptised 20 Jun 1847 on 7 April 1871 was the son of Amos Baldwin Yemm 1819/1891 and Rebecca Marfell 1816. I have Timothy's death certificate and it states parents as Amos Yemm & Rebecca Murphy, the latter a not uncommon mistake not knowing the mothers maiden name.
Timothy & Frederick Yemm and cousin Albert Marfell are shown below.
Timothy died 26 May 1930 Cuba IL. Mary died 23 Sep 1906 Cuba IL.
1880 Census 11.6.1880 Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois, USA
Yemm Timothy 31 Coal Miner
Yemm Mary 31 wife
Yemm Mirrium 11 dtr
Yemm Susanna 8 dtr
Yemm Frederick 22 Cousin Coal Miner
Marfell Albert 31 Cousin Coal Miner
Stevens John 33 Boarder Coal Miner
Rebecca Marfell was my 1st cousin 4 times removed, so we are certainly related. If you email me by clicking on the envelope icon we can share information, I will be happy to email the death certificate for instance.
I have posted the gravestone for William Yemm & Lydia nee Marfell which includes Frederick Yemm on this website as I found it unusual for a person dying in America to be included on an English gravestone :

Thanks for that. Found the 1841 on Friday last after trawling through hundreds befor it. Sound as though John Driver may have had a dallience with a younger women unless he has a son.

Thank you M J Billingham
I don't know if your invitation to view your tribal pages tree was just for Gladys, but I had a look anyway.
I don't have much connection to George Abell 1814 and have already detailed some connections, but your family tree added some specific dates of birth and details of 2 deaths.
In return I may have some information for you. I only followed 2 of the 5 children of George Abell & Elizabeth Dickenson; Elizabeth Anne 20th May 1849 & Sarah 24 Feb 1856. I have previously detailed some information regarding Elizabeth Anne and her marriage to Enoch Meredith. I only followed 2 of their 9 children including Mary Jane 1887 as her marriage to William John Nicholls 1886, resulted in a daughter Edith Eleanor Nicholls 1909 who married my 2nd cousin twice removed Arthur Percival Barnard 30 Aug 1906 on 23 May 1931 at Cinderford - 3 children.
The other daughter of George Abell & Elizabeth Dickenson that I followed Sarah born 24 Feb 1956 married James Drinkwater 1853 as you have in your tree. I can add more detail for you. You have shown his father Samuel Ballard Drinkwater, he was born 1813 baptised 7 May 1813 Mitcheldean son of John Drinkwater & Ann Scudamore. Samuel Ballard Drinkwater 1813 married Jane Martin 1822 at Longhope 5 Oct 1847.
James Drinkwater 1853 and Sarah Abell had 5 children; Alfred James 1885, Ada Louise 1 Nov 1887, William 16 Jul 1889 Walter Samuel 1894/Jan 1966 Albert 1897. My interest is Walter Samuel 1894/Jan 1966 he married Ada Gibbs born 1895 and they had a daughter Betty Megan Drinkwater 27 Mar 1926/4 Nov 2002 on 31 Mar 1945. She married my 3rd cousin once removed George Maynard Marfell 1925/4 Aug 2005. Although I have extensive information about the Marfell family I learnt more - as usual - from Slowhands from this thread :
http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?mode=thread&id=33723#p33728
George Maynard Marfell & Betty Megan Drinkwater had 7 children, I have details of them all including their marriages & children, which I can share with you if you wish to email me via the envelope icon above.

I found this thread via Google while doing some investigation for a cousin. I am not related to any of the people mentioned, but have a slight connection to John William Driver Dickenson (or Dickerson) born 1837. He has led me a merry dance, since he perpetually changes his surname between Dickerson, Dickenson and Driver (not to mention spelling irregularities along the way!) Practically all of his descendants were blessed with the middle name "Driver", and it's taken me a while to work out why. If anyone wants any information down the Driver/Dickenson/Dickerson line, I will be happy to share what I have.
