Definition of "Wharfinger" (General)

Hi,

Many thanks for the definition. The Lydney registrar spelt it "warfinger" for James Ridler and his son William (1819-1863). In 1864 William's occupation is "clerk to Gollop and Ridler". Also in 1860 James Gollop was a witness at another Ridler wedding.So maybe "warfingering" at Lydney was good business?

Any Gollop's around to add to this story?
