Fox Talbot Photographer (General)
A relative abroad is of the impression that the famous photography pioneer, Fox Talbot had some sort of photographic studio or took photographs in the Forest of Dean. Does anyone know about it? He lived in Wiltshire and there is a museum there, he also took a number of photographs in Oxford as well as in London.

Fox Talbot photographs are an interest of mine too. He certainly got around including Oxford and York. Abroad too, Paris and Frankfurt am Main. I have spent an hour or two looking for any images in FoD. Could'nt find anything although I did find some photographs new to me, so it was a worthwhile exercise.
He had a studio in Baker Street, Reading in the 1850's for reproducing images. There is a photograph of him with assistants working in the garden.

Yes Roger, I consider myself pretty handy with a search engine & also spent a lot of time searching the web re this enquiry but to no luck wrt the Forest specifically. However he was clearly a photographer of flora & fauna so its not unreasonable to think he'd have travelled the Forest & Wye Valley area too ?.
What I found amusing is that he's world famous by a name that is not entirely correct and that he himself didnt like !. Ah well, the price of fame !
ps Roger, are you by any chance related to a heroic player of a certain local football team who I have a high regard for, namely the Lilywhites of Hereford ?

I wondered whether he would have been drawn to the FoD for its trees as he took photographs of trees in and around Lacock Abbey.
No, I'm not related.

Thanks for responding. My relative seemed to think Fox Talbot might have taken pictures of working people in the area.
