Newspapers

I have been looking online at the newspapers held at the British Library, and there are many listed for the Forest of Dean. I would love to be able to spend a day there looking at the old papers just to see if I can spot some stories on my ancestors, but I live too far away (Australia!).
It would appear that the library offers a copying service, but you have to have details of the article for them to copy.

Does anyone know if these papers have ever been digitised? Does this site have any plans to try and digitise old Forest of Dean newspapers?

Not that I aware off - besides the time required and the space to store the images - the biggest personal challenge is that these old papers are often broadsheet i.e. very large, so using a domestic A4 scanner gets very complex, I have not had too much success using a camera and tripod as the text is often very small...however I have submitted clippings / articles etc

I'm afraid it needs a visit to Colindale. Underground station nearby. Cold searching no good either, one could spend years and find nothing. However, if you have a specific event that took place in the Forest and search forward from the date of it for a week or so, then you may well find something. I certainly did quite easily. Don't forget the Lydney Observer, that covered the Forest too and probably still does.
