Kilty/Coopey Family (General)
by unknown, Wednesday, July 06, 2011, 08:37 (4958 days ago)
Hello to all,
Just joined this site after finding that one of my ancestors, Mary Kilty married Charles Coopey 24th July 1862 in Westbury on Severn and they lived out their lives in this area, having, as far as I know around 12 children. I have all the Kilty ancestry information for Scotland if any of the Coopey family would like to have this. Mary certainly settled in a beautiful area and lived a long life, being 83 when she passed away.

Hello mp,
This is just grand information, thanks again, a wee explanation about the Kilty spelling, here in Scotland it very much depended on what the registrar/enumerator or church cleric heard, and with Mary's family still having the Irish brogue to their accent, these men in Wigtownshire would have heard it many ways. While doing my family research via www.scotlandspeople.gov I found the family name under Kelty/Killy/ Kilty/Kiltie and at one point Kelly.
Today the spelling is Kiltie or Kilty on the west coast.

Wonder how Sarah dealt with the business? Now have all this info in a folder, better get it all into a memory stick before I get those reminders about low disc space! Any advice mp on how I could perhaps find someone researching the Kilty/Coopey family, what a pity that I seem to be the only one who has all this family history.

Just had a very quick look at Public Members Trees on Ancestry
There is one tree with a John KILTIE who married a Mary BLAIR - 23 November 1869, Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire -
Even if you try 'Googling' sometimes you get a 'hit' with someones family tree.
Rootsweb Sct - Wigtownshire - seems to have a few KILTIE message on their archives.

Hi m p,
Checked with google, on the Coopey name, the only folk looking for Kilty/Coopey were on Geni, contacted them, this is an abandoned tree as they put it, sent a message to slowhands on this site, as there was a reply to some folk looking for Coopey info, no reply yet, back to the drawing board, again, many thanks for your help.

I thought you might like this one....
1818 18th May Tuesday (note Monday was 18th May!) At Blakeney fair, on Tuesday, a man named COOPEY, a pig dealer, drank three pints of gin with little or no intermission, and almost instantly expired.

Hi Richard,
Firstly, many thanks for getting back to me, this is the second time I've started this reply to you, pc to blame, I'm trying to sort all the info out that you sent and I see that my ancestor Mary and husband Charles are at number 10 on your list of info.
Loved your pig dealer story, are you sure he wasn't Scottish? knew I had seen a pig dealer among my info that mp on this site sent to me.
Probate -12 July 1919 - Probate Gloucester
Thomas COOPEY - of Elton Nr. Newham - Pig Dealer - died 29 April 1919
Sarah Anna COOPEY - Widow - effects £366. 19s 8d.
There's a Chris Coopey on Roots site, he has a photo of Harry Coopey and letter sent to his parents, WW1, it's heartbreaking stuff Richard, wondered if this Harry was related to my Coopey's so I've sent a message to Chris, again the post was 2010, so no reply yet. Also a post on another site from a Pauline asking for info on Mary Kilty married to her ancestor Charles Coopey, another old post and she was a guest on this site.
Regards
Celtie

Hi , I'm really interested in Coopey/Kilty family history!
Herbert Charles Coopey (son of Charles Coopey and Mary Kilty) was my great-grandfather; his daughter Agnes Emily Coopey was my Dad's Mother.
I have got several birth and marriage certificates in relation to them.

Hi Celtie,
I had seen your thread before, but couldn't link the Charles Coopey you mention with any of the Coopeys I have.
Looks like I have found a common ancestor between myself and Charles so we are connected.
I'm just untangling all the Coopey information I have, but would be happy to share (in a few days time!) if you're interested.
