Richards family Newland / Lydney / West Dean (General)

by sarjic, Sunday, August 28, 2011, 07:24 (4890 days ago)

Am looking for information on James Richards born around 1805 Mitchel Troy, residing 1841 in Scowles Newland and thereafter 1851 Jane Cottage, Old Cross, Lydney and from 1871 Gorsty Knoll, West Dean. Wife Mary Ann; children William, Ann, John, James, Thomas, Sarah, Edwin, Samuel.

Have been unable to find records in the Parish Records section, so would like to know where the family worshipped; would also like to know if any of the children married in the area and had descendants (I am descended from Edwin). The sons appear to have been coal miners, so would also like to know where they are likely to have worked.

Many thanks

Sara

Just found James RICHARDS, 17 December 1843, at Lydney, residence: Allaston, parents James (labourer) & Mary.

Do sometimes find I have go use the % sign and go through baptisms for the year - for whatever reason, sometimes this is the only way I can find the information.

If I use the Advanced Search for baptism of RICHARDS children of James & Mary (nothing appears - just a baptism in 1902)

If I use the Advanced Search for for baptism of RICHARDS children of James (without the mother's forename typed in) - records appear

unless I am doing something 'incorrectly'

Very many thanks for the advice. I'll have to look on Ancestry as well - I think that William to Ann Pear was definitely the eldest son of the James I was asking about.
