Since I first posted this query I have made use of the excellent Parish Records transcriptions on this site (How complete are they ?)and have extracted a lot of useful information which gives me more confidence in his parentage.

However I am still hopeful that there might be someone using this site who either has specific family knowledge or has done more research on this family that I have time to do at the moment.

Can you suggest any other similar sites that might be worth posting on - or is this the best one for Forest of Dean Family history.
