HI there

On the 1911 census I have now found both Henry b. abt 1866 with 3 of his sons and at a seperate address his wife Alice b. abt 1861 but am left with a querry. Henry states that he had been married 24 years with 7 children, 4 alive and 3 dead but Alice states that she had been married 28 years with 6 children, 4 alive and 2 dead.

As far I was concerned they were married in June 1886 so had been married 24/25 years and had 6 children, 2 girls and 4 boys - Alice Vernon b. 1886, Alice Eliza b. 1889, John Henry b. 1892, Thomas William b. 1894, James Federick Charles b. 1896 and George Edward b.1902 and indeed by 1911 the 2 girls were dead and the 4 boys were still alive.

Alice was an Inmate at Brentry House in Westbury-On-Trym so should the info with her be taken with a pinch of salt even though her number of kids matched with what I already thought? Henry stated the correct number of years he had been married so should I believe him and search out another child that she didnt mention? or could it even be the 7th child is his and not hers although I find no other marriages for him and when he married her in 1886 he was only abt 20 anyway?

Arrrghhh I thought I had my 2xG Grandparents and there kids sussed till I spotted this!

I guess you need to search the possible missing child of Henry, what you have are more pieces of the puzzle, they dont always align perfectly :-(

Because Alice was in the Inebriate Reformatory doesnt mean her "evidence" is flawed, she may not have supplied the information on the census form it may have come from her admission notes....

oy my gosh thanks for those links guys. I am a little shocked! If I understand it right in 1911 she would have been in there because she was a drunk? Does anyone know if the admission notes from that period have survived and if so would it be plausible to get my hands on a copy or would that not be allowed?
