I have found two death registrations (one after the other) and am wondering if there was a colliery disaster or accident at the time.
Andrew GILES, aged 43, was buried on 20th February 1940 and
Ernest Albert GILES, aged 55, was buried on 22nd February 1940.
These two were both buried at St John's Cinderford.
They were not brothers but probably cousins.
Does anyone have any information on what may have happened?

A quick scan of the Inquest and Mine fatalities doesn't show a Giles or mine accident in the timeframe.

Thank you for the info on the death of Andrew Giles.
I am a granddaughter of Charles Higgins, youngest son of Thomas Higgins & Maryann Vines. My father heard from a cousin of his that they also had an Uncle Andrew and
Uncle Aubrey and that one of them had been found hanged in the Forest of Dean.
Have you heard of such a story?
In my research I have not come across an Andrew or Aubrey Higgins.

I cannot find any Andrew or Aubrey HIGGINS on the FoD database, or GlosBMD, altho they may have had other surnames and still been uncles, perhaps ?.

Thank you Jeff. I do have a considerable amount of info on this family but am trying to find any evidence of an Andrew or Aubrey being found hung in FOD.
My info re Andrew & Aubrey was relayed a couple of times over and I agree the
surname may not have been Higgins which is why I was enquiring about Andrew Giles
who would have been a cousin of both my father and the cousin who told him (she was
Kate's daughter). Not knowing the approximate time of this hanging makes the search more difficult.
However, thanks to the posting the other day I now know it was not Andrew Giles.
You never know, some information may come to light one of these days.

Thank you for the info.
I can see a lot of work here.
Is there anyway of finding out the cause of death of these two men other than buying the Death Certificates?
Am I able to access Inquest info online as I am in Australia and do have a query re a
hanging in the Forest of Dean.

You should be able to access the Inquests. Newspaper articles might hold the answer, other than that then Certs is probably the answer....

The Dean Forest Mercury for 1940 is not available on microfilm at Cinderford Branch Library and therefore the originals are unlikely to be available in the archive at The Forester office in High Street, Cinderford.
