William Scott of Coleford (General)

William Scott (1913-1989) was a famous artist, see http://www.williamscott.org/biography . He died in Coleford in 1989, as did his wife Mary in 1999. Does anyone know anything about them eg where they lived and when they moved to the district?

A reference here to 1965 at a Bennetts Hill Farm, Coleford.

Hi John,
first, your link didnt work for me, sorry.
second, now I'd never heard of him before tonight, so I'm NO expert, but the various sites I've seen about him say he died "at his home near Bath". By coincidence I mentioned on this forum last week that there are a few Colefords in the UK including one near Wells in Somerset, I wonder if perhaps you have the wrong Coleford ?

His life is pretty well covered here

Updates: this link confirms my view that it's probably Coleford Somerset.

Searching tinternet for "Bennetts Hill Farm Coleford" gives properties at postcode BA3 5QA Radstock, Somerset.
Rather like "our" Coleford, the village is surrounded by long-disused coal mines
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleford,_Somerset

There is another Coleford near Exeter in Devon, I think.

The postal address is Bennett's Hill Farm, Coleford, Radstock, Somerset BA3 5QA and as Jefff suggests he did not live in the Forest of Dean.

Hi Jeff,

I feel rather stupid! Living round here I never imagined there was more than one Coleford. Thanks for the reply and thanks Mike for the address.
