Fryer Family of Mitcheldean,Thomas & Hester (General)
For over 15 years I have searched for my 4thgrgrandfather,Samuel Fryer, who married Hannah Griffith from Mitcheldean in London in 1819. Going by Hannah,s age he would have been born around 1895. Sam & Hannah last child was born in 1832 in Mitcheldean , all the rest up to that date were born in London. I find no baptism or a death for Samuel. He would have died between 1832 and 1837 according to the bap. cert. of his daughter Sarah Ester who was born in 1826 and baptised in 1837 and it notes " father deceased."
Browsing the will index of this site I came across a will of Hester Fryer (nee Bower) dated 1810 in Mitcheldean. According to the parish records of Mitcheldean she married Thomas Fryer in 1780, he was from Ruardean. Thomas died in 1804. In her will she lists the names of her children. and one was Samuel. The others were Richard,William,John,Thomas,Elizabeth,James,Jane & Nancy.
I have found baptism,s and some deaths for these but nothing for Samuel.
Some things make me think that this is my Samuel, his brother Thomas was a stone mason as was Samuel, also Sam names a son Thomas and a daughter Sarah Ester.
I have found a tree on Ancestry for Thomas born 1786 but nothing for the others.
Can anyone on the list connect to this family and help me break down this brick wall.
Many thanks in advance and wishing all, Happy Holidays and a great New Year

? Where is Hannah FRYER on the 1841 census + children
By looking at the 1841 census and the 1851 census for neighbours of Amer/Amir? FRYER - there is a family of William SIMS on both census - again on the 1851 living near to Hannah FRYER.
On the 1851 census William SIMS and his family are at No. 12 Buckingham Place with a couple of other families and Hannah FRYER is at No. 13 with a couple of other families.
And on the 1851 census, Arthur FRYER, (father Samuel - marriage on Ancestry) now married is living next door to Thomas SIMS - (father William SIMS, stay maker) - who married Mary Ann Harris - 2 April 1850 a few pages before the above two families.
---
Adelia Menda FRYER - christened in 1822 - daughter of Samuel & Hannah - where does the Menda comes from? this is a family surname
e.g.
CLDS
Elizabeth MENDA christened 15 April 1803 Londsworth, Sussex, parents : William & Elizabeth
? There are MANDE/MAINDE/MANDE on various census'
or MYNDE/MUNDAY - FoD records.
Whoever wrote the name down - probably had a 'Cockney' accent.

As regards Samuel FRYER being deceased…
There is always a chance he had 'just disappeared', as I've just worked on my friends family tree - on the 1891 census, her great grandmother was listed as a Widow, having married only a couple of years earlier. Now we've got the marriage of her husband in 1891 in Australia, birth of a Son, and later the Obituary of the 'bigamist'. He had gone to Oz to join his brother in 1891.
Samuel FRYER/Hannah GRIFFITHS
Hello,
I have never found Hannah on the 1841 census. The children are living with Amer Fryer on Buckingham street. Thought Amer might be a nickname. Thought it might be Thamar as there is a family from Rastick yorks. with a Sam married to a Thamar Kay. But does not tie in. I,ve tried James Clee, witness to Sam.s & Hannah marriage. Mary Grifiths is I think a sister to Hannah.
Will check out the Simm family to see if a connection. Authur Fryer is my line and he maried Mary Gamble, and he died in 1881 in a London workhouse. Ester Fryer married also a Gamble, I think a bro. of Mary.
Will check furthur into Menda, did not see any connection at the time.
Many thanks for your interest. Would sure like to solve this mystery.
Cheers, Charles
