Richard Fryer of Overton Arlingham 1620 (Parish Records)
by Devon123, Monday, November 02, 2020, 11:28 (1474 days ago)
Richard Fryer of Overton, Arlingham 1620-1669 married Joane King 1631-1699 at Arlingham on 21.7.1658
My questions are:
Where was Joane born?
According to other sources Richards father was John Fryer 1606-1687 who married Joane Harrold. I can't find this Joan and I can't make the certain link between Richard and John.
The Fryer family tree I have been following then goes back for a further three generations. I was hoping to establish the first link before pursuing these.
I would welcome suggestions and help
Thank you

Thank you but I am looking for Joan King who married John Fryer in 1658. I have seen all the Fryers from Arlingham, and elsewhere, on the FoD site and more elsewhere.
Many of the earlier records from Arlingham are unavailable here.

The alias looks interesting
The Fryers I am looking for are from Overton and in cloth trade. I am now looking at the will John Friar weaver of Overton 1614.
I have also seen 16th century Haberdashers apprentice document in London for one of this family.
If you would like to see the family I am following check out the top of the Humphries and Knight Family tree on Ancestry which links in to my Watkins ancestors. I'm happy its correct to the Richard Friar Joan King marriage but I would like some good evidence for the next generation back.

I've called up the entry on Ancestry - and the date is 1658 -
So.... Joan KING was born c 1630, so would have been aged 28 - quite old to marry !!!

Reading this thread it became apparent that some entries in the Arlingham database were missing. An investigation has now taken place and the error corrected. We extend our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

For anyone who has spent time transcribing these old records, they deserve a medal.
Ancestry has many mistranscribed records. The registers can be damaged (eaten away) and the writing difficult to read (old English etc).
The ability to search for witnesses is a bonus, wish Ancestry had the same facility and the same goes for the Bonds/Licence records.
Very grateful to everyone involved.

The reason I am still continuing with transcribing is because the Ancestry transcriptions are so poor, especially pre 1700.

How interesting! I can't find your tree, sadly. I've got WATKINS and several other ancestors from Arlingham. Our Fryer folk seem to be from Newnham. Can you let me know your username of Ancestry by private message if you like, so I can track down your tree that way, please? Have you done a DNA test? We probably won't find a DNA connection that far back but possible could pick up a DNA connection more recently. :)
