Hi slowhands

I know it has been a couple of years since you posted the Thomas Mountjoy family, but I have only just worked my way back to the FOD on this, my grandfather's maternal line. So I am a newcomer working my way through all the posts.

In your 1851 census listing, you have Rosa Mountjoy, daughter of Thomas. Rosa is my great grandmother following her marriage to Matthew Buckley in Dudley, 8 Jul 1877. It appears that Thomas and family left FOD for other parts (so we won't say anything more about them).

My reason for contacting you is that Matthew and Rosa had two children - Arthur Briscoe Buckley and William Thomas Buckley (grandfather).

I presume the Briscoe name has caught your attention?

I had wondered where it came from, and it would appear it is linked into the Mountjoys and Briscoes being discussed on other threads.

So I've come in on this thread to see if it can be linked into your more recent discussions of Mary Ann and the Briscoes.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Ellee

MOUNTJOY- BRISCOE

The prior thread is ( i think)
http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=1087

and I'll do a bit more digging but it looks like this is the source of the BRISCOE

Thomas and Sophie are the children of William and Sophia.

Sophia marries into the BRISCOE line.

MOUNTJOY- BRISCOE

Hi Again slowhands

Did some more digging myself this morning on the basis of what you had posted and my own research.

Thomas Mountjoy b1825 married Phoebe Sophia Cooper b1825, both in the FOD. Phoebe was the child of Nathaniel Cooper b c1789 East Dean, and his wife Alice also born c1789, in Much Birch, Herefordshire. IGI has Nathaniel baptised 14 Feb 1790, son of Thomas and Mary Cooper. Other children of Nathaniel and Alice were Henry b1826, George b1830, Charles b1832, and Edwin b1835.

Thomas and Phoebe Sophia had seven children. Phoebe Sophia died sometime between 1858 (birth of George) and 1861 as Thomas is a widower in 1861.

Of the children, Phoebe Sophia Mountjoy, the eldest, stayed in FOD and was with her grandparents in 1861. (Nathaniel lived to the grand old age of 84 or thereabouts, finally dying in 1872). Have not tracked her on yet, although your earlier information is a good start.

The other children, Thomas b1850, William b1851, Jane b1853, Rosa b29 Apr 1855, John b1856, George b1858, all took off to Dudley with Thomas Sr.

I have found Jane in 1881 keeping house for brother Thomas (a widower at 32) in Birmingham.

So regarding the link you gave me, the Sophia and Mary Ann would have to be sisters of this Thomas I think?
