John Thomas and Frances Davies - Ruardean
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/ruardean_2/
My Great Grandfather John Thomas Davies(1857-1932) and known as "Tom", with his first wife Frances Davies (nee Prew, who originated from Cheltenham) outside their house at Pettycroft, Ruardean. Both are buried in Ruardean chuchyard.
He was a miner, as was his father. Born in Walford, he spent most of his life at Ruardean.
Married three times, the last time to a Mrs Smart, hostess of the Swan Inn Brierley.
He met an untimely death when he fell from a train during the return trip from a Cannop Colliery outing to Blackpool.
John Thomas Davies was also Great Grandfather (obviously) to my brother, Canon Cliff Davies (now retired) who was rector of Ruardean for 19 years.

The lad standing in the centre row, on the extreme right (as viewed), and in front of the gentleman,is my father, Francis Thomas Leslie Davies (known as Les). He was the son of Frank Davies. In later years he ran a dance band known as "Les Davies and the Kestrel boys"
Centre row, and in the centre of the picture, the shorter lass with the large white bow in her hair is my dad's cousin, Daphne Marfell. Daphne lived on Pettycroft (all of her life). She was the Ruardean schoolteacher for many years, and in later life married to become Daphne Hunter-Booth
