Gameskeeper for King George (General)
My ancestor is THOMAS BROOKS of Hereford and Gloucester. Thomas was born circa 1825 and married in 1848 at the St. Peter parish in Hereford. According to the marriage record his father is William Brooks.
WILLIAM BROOKS is listed in Hereford in the 1841 Census as a "jaylor" or "Saylor", I can't quite tell. However, the Los Angeles, California history books say that William was " a GAMEKEEPER for King George". This is what drew me to the Forest of Dean.
Is their any way to search for a games keeper for King George in the early 1800's? Could that gameskeeper be also a jailor in his hometown?
Thomas went to America in 1850 when his new bride died in childbirth. We have little to no information about his English family, and are searching for any possible clues. After his marriage, Thomas was a "baker" in Gloucester.
Thanks for any help,
Colin Brooks
