I have an Alexander Thomas Morgan as the Ferryman at Waters Cross Lydbrook. I can remember my father George Henry Waddley B.1907 and Lived in Abertillery and his family came from Lydbrook. I cannot remember the Ferrymans first name but his surname was Morgan. My father did tell me that he use to take him fishing in the river Wye. My father was a very private person and didn't speak about his early life or the time he spent in the Army or WW11. If you can help me find out more I would be very thankful. Ted Waddley.

Alexander Thomas Morgan, Lydbrook, Ferry.

A site I recommend to you is The Regimental Archive of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia). Many Foresters joined this Regiment and our users may well find the searchable database very helpful.
A search for WADDLEY produced this entry:

This site's PRs carry more Wadleys in Lydbrook area c1900-1940s, altho unsure how related if at all.

Searching FreeBMD gives following birth to Waddley/Herbert (note only births recorded post 1911 include mother's maiden name); http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Jun 1914 (>99%)
WADDLEY Ernest G Herbert Bedwellty 11a 138

and searching again for Wadley/Herbert, in case of error;

As said can only find Births with mother's maiden name post 1911.
Before then can find this birth registered during Oct/Nov/Dec of 1907

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

WARNING NOTE !
Searching Ancestry also shows a different George Henry Wadley living in the same general area; his Will shows he dies 14 Feb 1955, of 41 Australia Rd Cardiff, leaving £1705 to Elizabeth Wadley, widow. Unfortunately no age given.

However I don't think this relates to our George ?.
Both George Henry's Ancestry Death Index Record and the excellent set of father George's WW1 Pension Records both give George Henry's birthdate of 7th October 1907, Bedwelty District, as all previously stated by MPG (who always posts accurately & relevantly, unlike this amateur!).

-----------------

I see the Abertillery coal mines where father George worked c1911 were still being worked into the 1980s, see
http://www.abertillery.net/picpages/cwmtillerycollierypast.html
http://www.abertillery.net/picpages/roseheyworthcolliery.html

However I wonder if son George Henry was also involved in coal mining, given his passing-away in the important mining area of Clifton, Nottingham ? See

Well-spotted Mike, a very helpful report from 1951 I see, wrt FreeBMD;

Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page
Deaths Jun 1951 (>99%)
MORGAN Alexander T 83 F.of Dean 7b 354

So it's a little disappointing that Cinderford's "Mercury" in 1951 thought that tin was once mined in the Forest. Of course some Cornish tin-miners had moved here for work, including to Cinderford, hopefully that was in the writer's thoughts when making this typo error.
Not for the first time either.

A few years late, I know, but if the 1871 gap is still there this might fill it,

GR 1871 Census, Dents Houses (?), Trevethin, Abersychan

Elizth, Wife, Mar, 25, b. Monmouth Penalt
