The school photo is just one of many that are in an album of Viney Hill
which has over 100 photos of the Village and Villagers c1900.

Rob Chamberlayne who is the owner of the album has kindly allowed us to
display the photos on our Web site.

Ian Thomas is generously scanning the photos in the album and more will be
on display soon. Below are the comments Ian sent me with this photo.

I live in the US and would like to know if a copy of this photo could be obtained? I think my grandfather and great-uncle are the Cox boys listed on the roster and would very much like to see a photo of them as young children.

Long Family Viney Hill
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/viney_hill/

Comments by Ian Thomas:

The gentleman with the beard is almost certainly Walter Long with his
wife Mary from Framilode on the far side of the River Severn.

I have not worked out how the originator of the photo album, Alyse
Adams, is related to them, but there must be a strong connection for
them to feature so prominently in her photograph album.

The family are to be found in the 1881 census living in Passage Road, Saul.
The family comprises of:
Walter Long - Head of the family, a grocer, aged 43, born at Saul.
Mary Long - wife, aged 41 born at Arlingham.
Annie Long - Daughter aged 17, born at Newnham.
Anna Long - Daughter aged 14, born at Saul.
Emily Long - Daughter aged 5, born at Saul.
Lionel Long - Son aged 3, born at Saul.
Walter Long - Son aged 1, born at Saul.

Long Family Viney Hill

by Clairef, Friday, September 26, 2008, 08:49 (5937 days ago) @ admin

My maternal grandfather's family originated in the Saul/Framilode area and I'm sure there must be a connection with this family somewhere as his name was Lionel Walter Long. The earliest of the family that I've got back to is George Long who was born around 1791 and married a Mary Wells in Saul in 1814. If anyone can come up with a link I'd love to know.
