Aunty SHAPCOTT, Edgar'John'COLWELL and Deborah Elizabeth Ann COLWELL

This photograph was taken outside the Forest Church, Drybrook in about
1961.'Aunty'SHAPCOTT was (I think ) a close friend of my father's (Edgar John
Colwell) mother (Ethel SLEEMAN). We visited her several times when I was a child
and I remember her to have lived very simply.

Ethel (SLEEMAN 1889-1946) was married to Tom COLWELL (1882-1939 son of John Colwell).

Dad, born 1920 left the forest to join the Fleet Air arm to be a navigator and
lived in Surrey after the war working as an aeronautical engineer. He died in

William Martin and Hubert Gwatkin - Headstone

William Martin and Hubert Gwatkin both drowned (with two others) in the Union Pit Disaster 1902

William is on the left of the pic (with his wife) and Hubert on the right

In the middle are my GG parents William Martin Snr. and Hannah (ne Teague).

The inscriptions are actually on the back of the stones presumably to face the
pathway so technically the locations I have described are reversed hope this
makes sense? William jnr was my great uncle. Burial Ground is Christchurch

Sarah & Moses Hawkins - Headstone

This gravestone is on the north side of Newland church,
right next to Thomas Burgham, Ironfounder

The interesting point is that the shape for both stones is identical.
Also, the date of death for Sarah gives a birth of 1821.
