Henry Jones Evans (General)

by gr8yw8y @, Chungking, China, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 03:53 (1095 days ago)

Greetings from Wellington New Zealand. My GGrandfather Henry Jones Evans was born at West Dean in 1853 and married Emma Prout in 1874. In the 1871 census Henry and Emma appear to be neighbours. Henry joined London Met Police in 1880 and served for 26 years. Henry's father Richard Jones 1829 - 1866 I understand was a miner. I am trying to establish Richard's cause of death and BDM does not appear to have any record. I've searched mine death sites without success. Any help finding out more, including burial place etc. will be appreciated. Thanks

Wow... thank you so much for this snippet of information slowhands. The next thread describing Richard's death by falling from a horse is fantastic to have. Given the size of the family he left so tragically I suspect that there will not be a gravestone at Lydney.

Henry Jones Evans

by Mike Pinchin @, Bedford, England, Sunday, January 22, 2023, 20:11 (704 days ago) @ gr8yw8y

Gloucester Journal - Saturday 30 June 1866

Pillowell.—Fatal Accident. —On Saturday last, a man named Richard Jones, of this place, was killed by being thrown from a horse. From what we can learn, he had been to Alaston Meend and was returning home, when in going through a field known as the ten acres, he caught a horse that was grazing, and a companion assisted him to mount, when in a few seconds he was thrown heavily, causing great injuries, of which he died the following day. Deceased leaves a wife and seven children, and was about 35 years age.

Another report on the same page confirms he was a collier.
