FOD families listed as Chepstow, Monthmouthshire (General)
Hello all,
Any advise as to how I can search for families that live in the FOD, but for some reason
ended up in the Chepstow, Monmouthshire Civil Records?
The area that I am researching is the St. Briavel's Common.
Here is an example of a marriage that I am looking for:
Free BMD England and Wales Marriage Index
Name: Sarah Ann Lewis
Name: James Wood
Year of Registration: 1885
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Chepstow
County: Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire
Volume: 11a
Page: 5
Would I have to visit the Monmouthshire Record Office or mail away for the certificate
to get the more specific details of the marriage?
Is there a similar site to the "Forest of Dean Family History" for this area on the internet?
Any advise as to how I can effectively research the area for B/M/D parish records?
I live overseas, so I am unable to visit the record office in person. Should that be the case
I want to make preperations to do so effectively during my next visit to the area.
Regards,
Rachel

You will find details of the marriage you mention if you search through the Parish Records on this site:
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/?Members_Area_Details
You should be able to obtain a copy of the Marriage Certificate from the Cinderford Register Office but it will probably not contain any addidional details than what you see on the transcribed record on this site.

The Chepstow registration office is/was reponsible for the western portion from Lydney across to Chepstow. ( takes in Alvington, Hewelsfield etc) This part of the Forest is not outside Gloucestershire.
Confusing eh !

Thank you for noticing that the Lewis Wood marriage was in the site parish transcripts. I have looked in the past, it must have been added with all the recent new additions.
Another mysterious "Chepstow" district record in my notes

From the parish records on this site:
Batism Lydney - 6 Feb 1880 - Ernest Hill - Father Walter Mother Maria - Residence: Aylburton Common - Father was a Labourer.
and unfortunately there is also:
Burial Lydney - 8 Mar 1880 - Ernest Hill aged 2 months - Residence Aylburton Common.
Is this the person that you mentioned above?
Joanne.

Joanne,
Thank-you for looking up Ernest Hill's information. It may very well be useful to me a some point.
I just realized that I was looking at a different Ernest Hill.
This one is Ernest Hill, Bream's Tuff, who died Jan 4 1907 age 18
I have this Ernest Hill listed in the 1901 census with paternal grandmother Elizabeth Phelps (who remarried) and her second husband's children. I am looking for when this Ernest was born (approx 1888-1889) and who are his mother (daughter of Elizabeth)/ father. Likely in the Bream/Whitecroft/Parkend area.
Much appreciated,
