WILLIS Family of Westbury (General)
Has anyone information on Mary Sterry Willis born 1841 to Charles & Louisa Willis, I can traced Mary through the 1851/1861 census, in the 1871 census Mary has two sons Charles & Henry and now living in Gloucester, I have never found a marriage cert for Mary and both birth certs for her sons state Charles Willis as father, this I think is Mary's father. By 1891 both sons are living in Glamorgan, I cannot find Mary has she died or married and changed her name. any info would be gratefully received.
Thanks.

You don't mention the 1881 Census but as you've traced Mary through all the other Census I'm sure you've got this one but I've posted it just incase. As a point of interest on this Census Mary is listed as 'married'. Possibly a 'cover' story.
1881 England Census
Charles Willis abt 1862 Gloucestershire, England Son Gloucester St John Baptist Gloucestershire
Henry Willis abt 1866 Gloucestershire, England Son Gloucester St John Baptist Gloucestershire
Mary Willis abt 1840 Gloucestershire, England Head Gloucester St John Baptist Gloucestershire

Thanks for your reply, Its after the 1881 census that the trail goes cold, I know where both sons go but Mary just vanishes, I cannot find a death cert so I wonder if she ever married.
Thanks.

barri,
Have you checked immagration records?
My Willis ancestors immagrated from
the Forest but in stages. Not all at once.
Often wondered if the mines paid for the
men but not their wives?

Thanks Lilys.
I have not thought of that it's worth a try. I have noticed that in one of the census Mary has dropped the Willis and is listed as just Mary Sterry so she may have 'adopted' another name.
