From GFHS Disk "City Prisoners on Remand"
Q/Gc/6/7 Matthew Butler Committal 30/11/1878 aged 29 Mitcheldean Tinker
Q/Gc/6/7 Leanable Butler Committal 30/11/1878 aged 26 Gloucester Hawker
Q/Gc/6/6 Daniel Butler Committal 27/1/1877 aged 20 Bicester Tinker
Q/Gc/6/6 Eli Fletcher Committal 15/7/1874 aged 27 East Dean Hawker
A search for these reference numbers on Gloucestershire Archives Online Catalogue shows the "Registers of Prisoners" and "Visiting Justices Journals are on open shelves. Can you get there to see what extra information there might be?

Hello May
I now have ages and commital dates........thankyou for that
Unfortunately I live 14 miles from Southend-on-Sea, I was going to go down the paying route and I composed a nice request on what was required and how do I go about it..........only for the Glos gov website to inform me the site was playing up and my request went into that blackhole never to be seen again!

Hello May
I received a reply which said something like........if I get the opportunity I will have a look Monday after the Photographic meeting? and you would let me know Tuesday.....no promises
Well.......if I wasn't a dream that would be magic, and if it isn't now possible it was still great that you thought of me
Thanks

Hello Richard,
I only had time to look up 2 of the 4 because the filming for the Transcription Project had to take priority today.
The information I gleaned is noted below. The books are now only available on microfilm! which is a pity because it takes so much longer to find the entries and I couldn't get a whole page at once on the readers. It would be good to know what the entries are for (e.g. Church ?) Perhaps you could email Gloucester Archives and enquire about photocopies. If I had the time I would do it for you, but lets see what they charge for now.

Hello May
I have been out of commission for a few weeks............computer went wrong and then I spent a week in hospital....and now my daughter is in there with a bad back (prolapsed disc) and she has 12 week old twins which need looking after (i'm feeling really old)....anyway, went out this week and bought myself a new computer and am setting it up as I write.
Thankyou for your time and trouble in looking up my family in the records, it's much appreciated. I will have to have another look at your findings as i'm not sure what part of my anatomy i'm sitting on at the moment!

Thankyou slowhands/thankyou May
Thankyou both for your continuing work for all of us.......your doing a great job
where have I been....good question...easily distracted comes to mind!
Updates are now recorded..........ongoing ongoing with my paternal Gypsy side
Also on my paternal side......it appears I should have been a Penn and not a Powell, then again the Penn shouldn't have been a Penn!, that appears to be what Forest life was all about for working class families in the 19th century..........and I thought my "Powell" side was neat and tidy or cut & dried! how wrong can you be...........
