A message for Slowhands
On some of the information you gave me regarding William Grindle born abt 1832 died 1895, you mentioned that "On his funeral card it says of Little Dean Hill". Could you please explain what a "Funeral Card" is? Jean Herbert

a card that survives from his Funeral (service ?) - simple as that

giving date of death as Feb 23rd 1895

At a recent Herbert funeral, the family had similar cards created "to celebrate the life" of the deceased. We were told that this was the new way of doing things at funeral services. This would seem to be an old custom revived. Jean Herbert

I've got an 'In Loving Memory' Card for the death of a child in 1908 with the date of date and the funeral date on it

I have 'Rest in peace' cards for both my grandfathers and a neighbour who died in the late 1960's so not a new idea!
