Pond Cottage Westbury on Severn (General)

by unknown, Monday, September 26, 2011, 14:43 (4803 days ago)

If anyone has any information on former residents of Pond Cottage in Westbury on Severn it would be gratefully received.
My family lived in the cottage from 1989-2001. During that time in 1993, I saw a spirit of a woman dressed in Victorian etire.
I now live in Hucclecote and have recently been experiencing strange occurances in my house. Being very spritual I instantly belived I may have a spirit in the house.
Having organised a "spritual evening" at my house, the medium instantly picked up on the Victorian lady who thought of me as her grandaughter and had no connection with my current house but had attached herself to me whilst I was living in a cottage.
I therefore believe its the ghost I once saw.
The only details I have is she's elderly / Victorian / "S" name - she thinks Sarah.
Sorry about the lack of details but I don't really know where to start!
Thanks!

assume you mean

Pond Cottage
High Street
GL14 1LN

Do you know when the cottage was built?

Census returns, do not very often give the names of individual cottages, e.g. they just go along, say the.....High Street. Even Burial's in Westbury on Severn, FOD records - only give Cottage names - quite late 19th century onwards

May be one of these burials (transcribed also in FOD burial records for Westbury on Severn)

"Victorian lady who thought of me as her grandaughter"

Hi,
well this is interesting !. I presume you have thought about it in a more family-related way, and not just location-related ?. Presumably this is definitely NOT your actual grandmother or earlier ancestor, no doubt you've thought this thro ?
Assuming you're not related, out of pure curiosity, do you have any ancestors with "S" names ?

PS a quick Google thro up the following hit, of an older lady resident in Westbury who has apparently encountered ghosts herself, possibly in Westbury. It may be two years old but the "hit" gives a name and address of the lady, Dena Bryant-Duncan, who may possibly be able to help you.

Hi Jeff,

I can't see how it would be one of my ancestors as we had no other family living in Gloucestershire and they never have and no, we have no S names that have passed on, it's all a mystery!

Thank you for this info.

Yes the address you have written is the correct one.

I have no idea when the cottage was built but belive it to be 16th Century.

Pond House & Pond cottage are the same buiding but were split at some point to form the 2 properties.

I'm clutching at straws I know!
