MORGAN Family West Dean (General)
Hi all,
I'm very new to this and I would appreciate any help or advice anyone has to share with me as I'm very eager to research my family tree.
Here is what I know so far by talking to relatives and searching the 1901 census.
I know that my relatives lived in Broadwell lane end and attended St John's parish in Coleford at the time of the 1901 census and that my relatives information are as follows...
Lilly M Morgan aged 11 born in Merthyr
David J Morgan aged 9 born in Merthyr
Willie J Morgan aged 7 born in Merthyr
Charles E Morgan aged 6 born in West Dean
Tudor Garfield Morgan aged 4 born in West Dean
Imer Morgan (This could be Ingomar?) aged 3 born in West Dean
Thomas Morgan aged 1 born in West Dean.
It also said that they lived with their mother Elizabeth Ann, but I can't find her surname. She was 30 at the time and was born in Merthyr .It also showed that they lived with their father George Morgan and he was 40 at the time and he was a general haulier born in West Dean.
Then it showed that they all lived with the head of the house George Morgan who was 77 at the time and that he was a colliery proprietor and was a widow. He was born in West Dean. I think he had something to do with Forest Red Ash Colliery (maybe I'm wrong about the name of it?)
If anyone has any information regarding any of the people above I would be very very grateful!
Thank you

MORGAN Family West Dean ( in 1911)
Thank you everyone for your help.
It does seem as if you've found my family members although some things are unclear and I don't suppose I could find out on the internet but here goes just in case someone may be able to shed some light.
Is it possible that George Morgan (head of the family) re married? I have never heard of a Victor and a Blodwen being mentioned.
I know that some of my relatives were born in the Forest of Dean and that my family regularly moved from the Forest of Dean to Pontypridd and back a few times. Although I'm not sure why.
Another long shot, but can anyone find a birth index/certificate for George Morgan abt 1824 West Dean, as I have tried but failed.
Thank you all so much for your previous help!

If you use the Advanced Search for the children of Henry & Elizabeth Morgan you will find George baptised in 1835 there is a note saying he was born in 1824,
George MORGAN 1824
Hi Bethan,
Re the birth record for George abt 1826, using the Advanced Search thro this site's PRs gives following Baptisms for children of Henry & Elizabeth Morgan:
8986 1826 MORGAN Henry, Henry & Eliz[abe]th, Forest, Coalminer, Coleford
9063 1828 MORGAN Hannah, Henry & Elizabeth, Forest, Coalminer, Coleford
9191 1832 MORGAN Maria, Henry & Elizabeth, Forest of Dean, Coalminer, Coleford
9310 1835 MORGAN George, Henry & Elizabeth, Forest of Dean, Coal Miner, Coleford
9311 1835 MORGAN Elizabeth, Henry & Elizabeth, Forest of Dean, Coal Miner, Coleford
So they match Slowhands' Census Records above except that George appears to have got younger ?
But his full BR shows he's actually born 1824.

I was struggling to find a logical Marriage for Henry & Elizabeth, but then it clicked as to why George wasn't Baptised at birth;
This is the only likely Marriage on the database, but look at the date:

Also note conspicuous lack of groom & bride's family....and their use of a different Chapel than all their subsequent Baptisms.
Clearly, George was very soon to have a sister and they wanted to do the "decent" thing:

Searching for Baptisms for parent's Henry & Elizabeth is tricky without their parent's names to help.
There are two possible Henry Morgans baptised in 1802 in Newland/English Bicknor, and five Elizabeth Hawkins' baptised between 1796-98 in Newland/Coleford !

Hi David,
thanks for posting your kind offer to help Bethanmorgan. However please be advised that she hasnt seemed to have used the forum for some while so may not see your post - you can tell this by clicking on her blue user name. However the fact her name is still displayed in blue means she's still an "active" member, so hopefully can still be contacted offline by clicking the envelope icon. This lets you send an email direct to her computer inbox, so more likely she'll see it. Also this is private & secure, may I suggest that you consider removing your phone number from your thread post as this forum is public and you may possibly attract unwanted phone calls !.
Hope this helps you contact Bethan.

Hi,
I apologise, only now I have seen this message. If you have any information you could share, I would greatly appreciate it. I made a start on the Morgan line but I must confess I find searching for information tricky and it came to a bit of a dead end. Any information I have, I am more than happy to share with you.
Thank you.
Bethan.

I thought you had given up your search, What names or family ties are you looking for. I agree with you that nothing is straight forward as every time i look another mystery arises. Dave
MORGAN Family West Dean
Hi David,
No I haven't given up, I find that when I do research I get hooked and it is all I am able to think about, so sometimes I have to walk away and take a break. ;-) I am very interested in the Morgan line. I don't know much at all. I believe they owned a coal mine, do you know anything about that? Have you learnt anything about the Morgan's? In particular George Albert Morgan? I have only been able to go back to Henry Morgan, have you had much luck in researching beyond him?
I didn't receive an email to let me know you had replied to my message, for some reason I don't think the sight is notifying me of when people get in contact. I will try and sort that out and check on here more regularly.
Thank you for getting back to me.
Bethan.

Bethan. Good to hear from you and yes it is adictive, only been doing it a short while and i been concentrating on my wifes brothers and sisters and her mum and dads brothers and sisters. GEORGE ALBERT MORGAN was my wifes grandfather. Her dad was HAROLD VICTOR MORGAN later to be VICTOR HAROLD MORGAN!who you knew nothing about. HGM had 9 children, info on some of his children you were unsure of. INGOMA was born INGOMAR, there was2 children called THOMAS (1 deceased). You mentioned DAISY! if im right hgm married her in 1908 after the death of his wife ELIZABETH ANN in 1907. With DAISY he had a daughter BLODWEN age at 1911 census 4 makes her dob 1907.I have so much but nothing on being a colliery owner. I believe there may be a link with the PRINCESS ROYAL COLLIERY but thats another job. shame about email as my phone number is on it for you to contact me if you wish. best wishes Dave
