Hello to the Forum.
I am descended from the marriage at Woolaston Jun.13 1831 of Eliza Davies and Francis Young, both born Mitchel Troy. Hoping to find others researching that line and hopefully with life knowledge of their firstborn, Mary Young, born Mitchel Troy Nov. 1831.

married

Margaret DAVIES - residence, Woolaston by banns

and

This probably explains why Eliza DAVIES married in Woolaston, there with a family member!!!

-----

Francis YOUNG - 60, Farmer
Eliza - 28
Mary 10, Sarah 7, Caroline 4, Alvena 2, + Thomas YOUNG 26/William YOUNG 24

-----

Looking at the census', this family appear all to be born/living in Mitchel Troy, Monmouthshire, which is outside the FOD area :

1851 Census, Mon. Mitchel Troy

YOUNG

Francis age 80 (transcribed as 30) c1770 - Freeholder 18 acres of land
Eliza - 36
Sarah 17, Caroline 15, (Alvena 12 - who married Sydenham HOLLYMAN, according to Public members Tree) Elenor 9, George 5

----

Not sure what happened to Eliza YOUNG after 1851, so can't check for place of birth - to see whether she was born in the FOD (nearest baptism at Woolaston, Elizabeth DAVIES, 29 August 1819, parents William & Sarah)

But this website has additional information which may have links to the FOD???

http://family-ancestors.co.uk/narratives/indirect141.htm

and

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/monfh/message/3284

(both these two links seems to have your Francis YOUNG - first wife Margaret MEREDITH - second wife Eliza DAVIES)

(and you may be aware already) if you have access to Ancestry, there are many Public Members Trees listed on your particular line)

Thanks for the info on Margaret Davies. Both she and Eliza were born in Mitchel Troy. When Francis Young died in 1857, Eliza married Thomas Evans in 1858. The family split up after the death of Francis. Alvena/Alvinia obviously went to the Bristol area where she met and married Sydenham Hollyman at Long Ashton. They later moved to the Mountain Ash area where George had relocated. He met and married Sarah Beacham of Somerset and Alvinia was a witness to that marriage.

Thanks to all who responded to my posting. And I apologise for not advising that I do already have substantial details on the Youngs of Mitchel Troy. I was hoping to pick up someone in FOD with a family connection to Eliza Davies who in turn may have had some info on Eliza's first born, Mary Young after 1851. She is the only one of Eliza's children I haven't been able to trace in her adult life. I am grateful to learn from the replies to my posting of a relative of Eliza's having been in Woolaston at the time of her marriage, - even though she also appears to have been born in Mitchel Troy. My great-grandfather, George Young was the only male child of Francis and Eliza Young. George married Sarah Beacham of Somerset and emigrated to Australia. Thanks again. Kev Young

Hi Keven

I am also trying to find Mary

I believe she is the D/O Francis and Eliza Davies.

I believe Francis to be the S/O William Young and Margaret Hopkins, born 1771 in Mitchel Troy. If my research is correct he would have been 60 when he married Eliza. They went onto have 6 children including Mary, some achievment for a sixty year old.

Tony

Tony, It gets better. He was 75 when he fathered my great-grandfather, George. Mind you, I am pleased he displayed such stamina or I wouldn't be here writing to you.

I don't know if this of interest to you.

From The records of the 'Overseers Assessments & Disbursements' Mitcheltroy, Mon.

1795 2 Yrs. Rent to 1st May 1796 for Thomas Griffiths to Jane Young.

I printed off all the sheets for Mitcheltroy, Mon. and could not see a Jane Young amongst all the entries.
