by ikhatton , Saturday, December 17, 2011, 22:30 (4720 days ago)
Hi all,
A really fantastic thanks to all who helped me in my previous post. I found out data that I have not found in 30 years. It is so appreciated!
This time I am looking for a marriage of:
Robert Hatton and Elizabeth first child born about 1739 so marriage between 1720 and 1740, families from Ruardean generally.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Ian
I'm a direct descendant of this line (as a lot of us are) from the line of Robert Bart HATTON. Don't think any of us have found who Elizabeth actually was and/or when the marriage was.
Who are your ancestors?

Dear Jane,
My ancestors were:
John Hatton (1616) m Jane Tyler
Phillip (1649) m Elizabeth ? Surname unknown
Thomas (1681) m Anne Cooke
Robert (1718) m Elizabeth ? Surname unknown
Phillip (1746) m Jane Eddy
Joseph (1784) m Sarah Nelmes
Phillip (1822) m Eleanor Buttery
who moved to Abertillery Mon about 1849-1855 with 6 children
Richard (1852) m Sarah Ann Harding
Richard Stanley (1896) m Edith May Hawkins
Donald Keith Hatton my father
We are therefore one of the South Wales branches. Others were in the Mountain Ash area of Glamorgan. One of the children of Phillip (1822) i.e. Henry Hatton (born 1849 in Abercarn Mon) seems to have disappeared after the 1881 census and it was rumoured that he went to the USA but I have no proof of this.
Have you found the marriage of Phillip (1649) to Elizabeth? Which branch are you?
Best wishes, Ian

In that period a number of the HATTON family were married in Walford rather than Ruardean.

A few years ago I discovered the Forest-of-Dean site and posted some old photos there. I was interested in the area because that is where my Jones family originated. In 1901 in Christchurch, Forest-of-Dean, my grandmother Charlotte Emily Jones (daughter of James Jones and Charlotte Vick) married a Thomas Hatton who was not from the area, but from Tunbridge Wells. We have been puzzled about how Thomas Hatton happened to meet my grandmother since travel between towns was not easy in those days. Now, reading these recent posts, I see that there were a great many Hattons also living in the Forest-of-Dean. Perhaps my grandfather Thomas Hatton was visiting a Hatton relative. Thomas Hatton was the son of Lydia Carter and Robert Hatton (1834-1922) who was the son of Lydia Mugliston and Robert Howe Hatton (1811-1894) who was the son of Ann Howe and Thomas Hatton (1795-1847). If any of these Hattons can be linked to other Hattons mentioned in these postings, I would be most interested in learning of the relationship. Thanks.

Your HATTONS seem very mobile moving around english counties as Farmers .....
Was Charlotte Emily "in service" and perhaps worked in Oxfordshire and met Thomas ?

Thank you very much for all of that Hatton info. I am still curious as to whether anybody knows of a connection between "my" Hattons and the ones living in Forest-of-Dean.

If you have a living Hatton male have him take a simple DNA test at Familytreedna under the Hatton surname. There are quite a few of us in the Hatton group.
