I am trying to identify some properties left in a will of 1828 - I can't see them mentioned anywhere else, so perhaps the names changed. They were "in or near the parish of Longhope" and were:
"The Twelve Ridges or Rudges" - a barn and land
"Cold Rudges" - land
"Pycose" - messuage with outbuildings, land, etc
"Pycose" seems a strange word, but I'm fairly certain that's what it says
Do any of these names mean anything to anyone?

Hi Scuda
Just had a look thro the Royal Mail Yr 2000 Postal Address Book.
No trace of property name Rudges or similar in Longhope postal area.
But nearest to 'Pycose' I have found
"PYCOX" Barrel Lane, Longhope Postcode GL17 0PA
Seems close, spelling may have changed over time.
regards

This is great, especially as the person who left the properties in 1828 was John Pittman of Monmouth. Both Pycox and Coldridge are virtually next door to Pitman's Farm - surely there must be a connection.

Just wanted to add a proper thankyou to slowhands and forest for sorting out Coldridge and Pycox. I've looked at the will again, and can see what I took as Pycose could well be Pycox, so not a change of spelling. I've also been looking at a couple of OS maps from around 1890, and they have it as Bycocks, but Pycox seems to have been the standard.
Thanks for your help.
