I suspect this "character" may have been rather a "handful" for the landlords and bobbys, as per his surname perhaps, being a presumably strong butcher who seemed to enjoy a drink. And he ends his long life living at the Angel Inn !

ps No disrespect or malice whatsoever implied or intended towards his descendants by the way. In fact having now seen he was married to Liz Taylor, I'm a little jealous of his lifestyle !
