Herefordshire Marriage Index 1538-1837 (General)

by grahamdavison @, Thursday, January 19, 2012, 09:00 (4688 days ago)

I note that the Herefordshire Family History Society has published a Herefordshire marriage index 1538-1837 covering all parish registers deposited at the Hereford Record Office at that this is available on CD at a cost of £25.50. I wondered if anyone had a copy of this CD and would be willing to do look-ups for Forum users.

Hi Just see that you will do lookups for Herefordshire weddings. I would be grateful if you could look up a W.Gaulder/Galder to a Martha Gough (Father Richard) Martha from Wormbridge Herefordshire. I guess it would be around 1820-1826.Thanks Mary .

Hi Graham

Could you do a look-up for me please? Any Pewtner (allowing for variant spelling if possible) marriages. I have Esaias m Susannah Gardiner at Whitchurch 3 Nov 1794. I'm particularly hoping for a marriage for this chap's brother William Pewtner somwehere around the same date. They were both born in Bristol and William spent most of his adult life in London where his first two children were baptised in 1798, but he was apprenticed in Hereford, so may have married in the county before moving...?

Thanks

Joss

Just in case this is useful....

Gloucestershire Marriage Index pre 1800 (other than FOD) - only one variation

John PEWTERS (of Bath) - married Sarah LEWIS by Lic. at Rodborough, 1 June 1774

None Gloucestershire (other than FOD) - 1800-1837

Assume you belong to ancestry where PEWTNER seems well documented including apprenticeship details, electoral registers +

Marriage William Frederick PEWTNER (Batchelor) to Mary Ann LILLY, by banns 31 May 1794, Shoreditch St Leonard, Hackney

Thanks! William Frederick is a contemporary of the other William I mentioned, but definitely not the same chap. John Pewters however is new to me, so will make a note of him. Yes I'm on Ancestry (and everywhere else, ha!). I've even got a Pewtner Group on Facebook - social networking is a good way to root out distant cousins.

Hi sorry there isn't a marriage listed for a William Pewtner. Apart from the one you mentioned there is only one other Henry Pewtner 26 Oct 1807 Whitchurch to Elizabeth Jordan, which can also be found on this site......Gill

Thanks very much for checking, Gill. Henry was another brother. As well being apprenticed in Hereford on 18 Jun 1785 to Wm Parker, Joiner, my William appears(with his son Joseph) in an 1826 Hereford Pollbook as "William Pewtner of London, carpenter". But his first marriage must have been elsewhere. The quest continues..

Cheers

Villages do move around in "registration /census districts" - Ruardean was "counted" under Herefordshire in 1851(?) West Dean "moves" into Monmouthshire and Wales at times...... However Ruardean was always Gloucestershire..

Ruardean Herefordshire ?

by May @, Thursday, November 08, 2012, 00:21 (4394 days ago) @ slowhands

Ruardean Church came under Walford until about the 1870's and as such was in the diocese of Hereford which sometimes causes confusion.
